Plymouth Half Marathon

Race Day Volunteers

Our volunteers make each year's event extra special! We have a fantastic network of smiley-faced, happy people who offer a helping hand and a friendly face, as well as knowing key information about the day for both participants and spectators!

How can you help? We're glad you asked!

Typical volunteer roles are:

Course Marshals: There to direct runners along the route, the perfect role for those with a little running experience! You'll direct spectators, make sure that roads remain clear for the runners and feed information back to Event Control.

Sweep Cyclists: There to travel behind the last runner at the back of the race. You'll keep in regular radio communication with Event Control and offer words of encouragement to that last runner!

Race Village Marshal: There to support the runner facilities within the Race Village, including the Help Desk (Race Pack Queries), Volunteer Reception, Stage, etc.

Start/Finish Marshal: There to direct runners into the correct timing pen before the start of the race. You'll also help clear the start/finish line ready for the return of the half marathon runners, as well as helping to put up and remove branding, offering runners encouragement and making sure there is a steady flow of finishers.

Rewards Marshal: There to help set up the rewards area with goody bags, medals, bananas, water etc. You'll also congratulate runners and be the ones to give them their goody bags, medals, etc.

Information/Arrivals Marshal: There to welcome runners to the event and direct them from the local transport stations, e.g. train, bus etc. towards the Race Village. You'll need to have good local knowledge!

Volunteer Groups

Every year lots of local groups volunteer at the event and we have some particular roles that are perfect for larger groups of people! Each volunteer group also receives a donation to their organisation.

Water Station Teams: There to set up the water station, top up water bottles, hand out water bottles and clear away the station once all the runners have passed.

Baggage Teams: There to manage the baggage store throughout the event, make sure all bags are labelled, to store baggage neatly and securely, and to return bags to runners post-event.
